Turtle Bay Celebrates the Holiday Season The TBA Holiday Toy Drive and Party, along with a tree-lighting ceremony and Santa’s visit to Dag Hammarskjold Plaza Park, topped the list of neighborhood festivities during December. The Toy Drive was the most successful in the 18 years the TBA has been sponsoring the event, says Barbara Connolly, TBA Special Events Chairwoman. Some 150 neighbors and friends attended the party and nearly 1,000 toys and more than $2,600 were donated. The donations were turned over to three charitable organizations – God’s Love We Deliver, The Salvation Army and the North Side Center for Child Development – for distribution to needy children. The TBA thanks all who helped make the event such a success, including Dag Hammarskjold Tower, 240 East 47th Street, for donating the building’s 43rd floor Sky Lounge for the party. Meanwhile, when Santa showed up in “Dag” Park on the first frigid evening of the season, children and parents gathered ‘round to sing holiday songs, officially light the park’s big tree and warm up with hot cocoa served by the Patio Café.
