Precinct Night Out Against Crime (N.O.A.C)
BY Patricia Q. McDougald
Come hell or high water, the 17th Precinct will come through! And
that is exactly what Capt. McEnroy, Det. Frank Bogucki and members
of the Community Council did for the annual precinct get-together
in Dag Hammarskjold Park on the rainy evening of August 5. They
made themselves available and were more than willing to share their
knowledge in answering the many questions put to them at the annual
N.O.A.C.
While a number of other precincts folded their tents in the on-again,
off-again rain, our precinct stuck it out-and with an amazingly
large crowd. Grownups and kids alike were determined to enjoy the
safest night out they could ever have in a park-ANY park. It was
made all the better by the upbeat music of popular keyboardist Norm
Curtis and the right-on singing of Jeanne Waller, both with talent
galore!
The rain was coming down in earnest as Jay Litwin, Chairman of
the 17th Precinct Community Council, began the presentation of thank-you
plaques to a number of members of the City, State and U.S. governments
for their outstanding service to the communities in our area. The
associations of Beekman, Kips Bay, Manhattan East Community Association
(MECA), Murray Hill, Sutton Place, Tudor City, and Turtle Bay represent
these communities.
Those receiving plaques were: United States Congresswoman Carolyn
Maloney (accepted by Press Secretary Phil Craft); New York State
Senator Liz Krueger; New York State Assemblymen Steve Sanders and
Jonathan Bing (accepted by Chief of Staff Julie Hendricks); City
Council Speaker Gifford Miller; and City Councilwoman Eva Moskowitz.
