Turtle Bay Association Hosts Valentine's Gala
By Bill Huxley
Glorious decorations at La Maganette transformed a very cold night into a warm
and perfect valentine for our Love Thy Neighbor party last month. The splendid
buffet included chicken in wine sauce, baked ziti, eggplant parmesan and a variety
of desserts.
In addition to the more than ninety members and directors in attendance, we
were visited by two popular guests: NY State Assemblyman Jonathan Bing, and
former NYC Parks Commissioner Henry Stern. Carrying the flag for the 17th Precinct
were Executive Officer Christine Kaye, and Detectives Frank Bogucki and James
Meury. Long-time friends from Murray Hill and SAC were on hand as well.
Old-fashioned hospitality was in the air with familiar tunes sung by our three
spontaneous guest vocalists: Candace Dittman sang Embraceable You, Jack
Tharp crooned Always, and Stewart Rogers gave a stirring rendition of
Cry. Our guests danced happily to a variety of Greek, Latin, and Polish
music provided by the keyboard and vocal skills of Norman Curtis.
A great big Turtle Bay thanks goes out to TBA Vice President Dolores Marsh
for providing the door prizes that included two tickets each to a Knicks games,
the ballet, and Thoroughly Modern Millie. Special Events Committee volunteer
Mary Baxter summed up the evening best by commenting, "Living here in Turtle
Bay gives me a wonderful sense of belonging to a neighborhood. Volunteering
for TBA makes me feel like I'm really part of things."
