the Night of December 18th
By Mary Beierle
In the Plaza all the children did know
That something exciting would happen that night
They watched the magician dressed in sequins
Listening attentively without fright.
The tiny hands clapped, making the Christmas Tree
glow
While several neighbors as carolers did sing
Santa talked with the little ones and their parents
Greeting guests, one of them Assemblyman Jonathan Bing.
Hot cocoa and warmed cider did flow
Warming families and Santa who was no phony.
All were gathered at The Patio for gifts
Donated by Congresswoman Carolyn Maloney.
The night air was cold with no sign of snow
Santa’s reindeers were nowhere in sight
So much laughter and good cheer
The party went on until eight at night.
