| News From The 17th
Precinct Community Council
By Bill Huxley
In spite of the cold wind and increasing snowfall, a large number
of people turned out for the January meeting of the 17th Precinct
Community Council. Many of those who were concerned about the storm
were picked up and delivered safely home by a police van. Deputy
Inspector McInroy introduced Captain Timothy Beaudette, the precinct’s
new Executive Officer, along with seven new rookies who have been
assigned to the 17th Precinct. The February meeting was also well
attended, and featured a presentation by the Explorers, an organization
of high school students who are interested in learning about police
work. Both meetings concluded with discussions about the Mobile
Command Vehicle, which was promised to the 17th Precinct Community.
Commissioner Kelly has frozen funds for the unit and numerous community
groups are supporting our resolution to have the funding restored
for this vital crime-fighting system.
