Could Topple Trump Tower
Donald Trump managed to get building permits for a residential tower
that would be 856 feet tall, but the Coalition's legal counsel,
Donald H. Elliott, has determined that the building's height radically
violates zoning regulations. He has also challenged the legality
of air rights transfers across zoning boundaries. He urged the Department
of Buildings (DOB) to revoke Trump's building permit and to issue
a Stop Order. If the City refuses, the next step would be to take
the case to the Board of Standards and Appeals. Final recourse would
be the State Supreme Court.
Also opposing the tower's height, the Municipal Arts Society wrote
a letter to the DOB and the Department of Health stating that an
environmental study shows that dangerous pollutants from a nearby
Con Edison power plant would envelop the building at 650 feet in
violation of federal air quality standards.
